Wind from the E until 10:25am, to ESE until at 12:50pm back to E for a short time, changed to ESE at 1:10pm and continue rest of the afternoon. And possible S wind at night. Overcast south of my site before 9am and changed to PC all day. Raptor Migration Highlight: Second eagle of the season, an adult at 1:31pm headed W. 3 Turkey Vultures between 12:34pm and 12:54pm Non-Raptor Migration Highlight: Swifts are picking up in good numbers, several kettles including 1 Bank Swallow and 4 swifts at 1:31pm, 8 swifts at 1:32pm, 15 swifts at 1:32pm, 33 swifts at 1:33pm, and 7 swifts and 3 Tree Swallows at 1:33pm. A nice kettle of 20 Ring-billed Gulls and 3 Herring Gulls at 12:19pm headed ESE. Butterfly Migration Highlight: It's a good day but only one came through. Non-Migrants Highlight: Increasing activities of goldfinches in row of White Pines with over a dozen of them. Sky codes: S= Sunny, PS= Partly Sunny, PC= Partly Cloudy, MC= Mostly Cloudy, R= Rain Backyard Hawk Watch is located at 3812 White Ave., between Belair Rd. and Walther Ave. in the Gardenville section in northeast Baltimore City. Topography of the Site: - steep ridge about 180-200' above Belair Rd. - about 260' above sea level - It runs northeast to southwest - the first ridge west of the Chesapeake Bay - 12 miles from bay, 5 miles NW of Back River - my hawkwatch is 150 yards west of the ridge - Fairwood Ave runs along side of ridge My hawkwatch is located in my backyard. Most of the hawk flights arrive from the northeast and a few from the north and northeast-east.
