My wife and I joined Linda Baker and friend from AA County to enjoy the view. We left after only a short viewing, so Linda m ay have found more - we were trying hard for Uppie and Buffie, but I did not manage to find them. Carolyn and I then proceeded over to Bombay Hook and were rewarded by the presence of lots of Avocets (400+) and Black-bellied Plovers (40+) mostly on the mud flats across from Shearness Pool, for we were there at low tide. Also at Shearness Pool we found a Red-necked Phalarope - got nice long views of the bird in reasonably good lighting - good enough to clear ly see neck markings, and also to see fine details of bill (length and sligh t down-turn at the tip). I had seen Wilson's Phalarope over there a few we eks ago, so some of the comparison details were still fresh in the memory ban ks. Near the end of the day, when the tide had begun to come in, we re-visited Raymond Pool, and found 300+ Short-billed Dowitchers, and my sharp-eyed wife managed to pick out the single Red Knot that was amongst them. One Black-necked Stilt was still around, and we also saw a Merlin, three Marsh Harriers, four immature Little Blue Herons at the pond toward s Airlie House, and great numbers of Yellowlegs, Semi-palmated Sandpipers, and Least Sandpipers. Also had two Semipalmated Plovers, but could not f ind the Stilt Sandpipers. And a final note - this has been a great week at home too - adding th ree new warblers to the yard list - Black-throated Blue, Chestnut-sided, and this morning getting a brief visit from a Tennessee Warbler - bringing th e yard list to 150. Things are moving - do get out and enjoy them!
