Date: Sun, 10 Sep 2000 14:52:01 EDT Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Gail Mackiernan Subject: Potomac today Hi all -- Today barry and I checked out some sites along the Potomac below Washingt on itself: mouth of Hunting Creek, Jones Point, Old Town and Four Mile Run (DC Sailing Marina). Actually, things were rather slow and although there is tons of Hydrilla and Waterstargrass, there were *no* shorebirds and *n o* Black terns seen. We did have quite a good number of Caspian Terns and th e expected gulls. No sign of the Tricolored Heron at 4-mile Run, either. The only action was at Hunting Creek on the (shhhh) Virginia side of the bridge: 1 juvenile Sanderling, a nice record, 1 Long-billed Dowitcher, ab out 40 Semipalmated and 10 Least Sandpipers, both yellowlegs, Killdeer and a couple of Pectoral SPs. It got hot and we went home - someone let me know if the Tricolored shows up again!
