Wind from the SW all day except SWW for a few minutes around 11:08am. Increasing clouds all morning until break up at 12:15pm for 15 inutes and back to increasing clouds for rest of the day. Raptor Migration Highlight: Season first major kettle came in at 12:17pm with 202 BW very, very high in the distance. Rest of BW came in as a single, or a pair and are easy to spotted with a lot of clouds. 3rd yar Bald Eagle at 12:36pm headed SW. Hope fo the best in the next few days with cold front coming in tonight. Non-Raptor Migration Highlight: Season first major kettle of swifts with 318 in a long stream for 3 or 4 minutes, spotted at 10:22am headed SW. Butterfly Migration Highlight: Season first big day. Will add Dragonflies as I have to catch up on total numbers since August 10, likely to add it on the list tomorrow. Non-Migrants Highlight: Many goldfinches everywhere, bunch of them drop out of the sky and remain all day in and near the yard. Only 3 have passing through and is counted on migrant list. Sky codes: S= Sunny, PS= Partly Sunny, PC= Partly Cloudy, MC= Mostly Cloudy, R= Rain Backyard Hawk Watch is located at 3812 White Ave., between Belair Rd. and Walther Ave. in the Gardenville section in northeast Baltimore City. Topography of the Site: - steep ridge about 180-200' above Belair Rd. - about 260' above sea level - It runs northeast to southwest - the first ridge west of the Chesapeake Bay - 12 miles from bay, 5 miles NW of Back River - my hawkwatch is 150 yards west of the ridge - Fairwood Ave runs along side of ridge My hawkwatch is located in my backyard. Most of the hawk flights arrive from the northeast and a few from the north and northeast-east.
