It was all we could have hoped for , a " Real Turkey Point Day " for myself, S. McCandless R. and C. Lee,and D. Quin. 16 species of warblers and others observed between 7:30 AM- 10 AM. The morning was slow to begin with, but as the sun warmed up the wood edges, stuff really began to fly in; we encountered masses of stuff all along the point. We did not begin to ID all that was present, so much activity. The morning started nicely with 3 PILEATED WOODPECKERS flying single file across a clearing. Other sightings as follows, with approx. numbers: WARBLERS: Cape May- 3 Wilsons- 1 Nashville-5 Blackburnian-2 Baybreasted-1 Blackpoll-1 Black-white- 5 Blue-winged-1 Black-throated Blue-3 Black-throated Green- 10 Magnolia-20 Redstart-18 Northern Parula-12 Common Yellowthroat-10 Chestnut-sided-10 Tenessee-15 All those warblers, no thrill quite like it, except maybe a sky full of raptors!! Others: Blue-headed Vireo-5 Scarlet Tanager-5 Rose-breasted Grosbeak-4 Eastern Peewee-6 Baltimore Oriole-1 Bobolinks- heard calling Blue-gray Gnatcatcher- 4 Just a wonderful morning!! You hope for one just like this every fall. The hawk watch was slow when I left, hopefully a flight will get underway.
