Anyways, here are the weekend numbers. Every effort will be made to provide timely information. Since our last good flight day, things have been slow. We often get our best numbers later in the fall with the larger buteos, and do not typically get large Broad-winged flights with the exception of Sept. 26th last year when we had 1,495. Sharp-shinned hawks comprise a good percentage of our total counts as well. 9/16 ( D. Donham ) 9/17( M. Whitmyre ) TV-2 TV-2 BE-4 BE-1 NH-1 SS-23 SS-31 BW-9 BW-4 RT-3 CH-1 AK-1 OS-1 ML-2 There was an exceptionally good fall-out of passerine migrants on 9/17, with 16 species of warblers recorded. Seaonal totals to date: 543 total raptors with 61 hours counted since 9/2, including: TV-63 OS-38 BE-41 NH-5 SS-269 CH-13 BW-74 ( I know, not even close to being respectable!! ) RT-6 AK-21 ML-9 PG-1 UU-2 The Turkey Point Hawk Watch is located in Cecil County, MD and is part of the Elk Neck State Park. It was originated in 1994 by Gary Griffith, founding President of the Cecil Bird Club, and Charlie Gant, also a CBC member and long time member of Hawk Mountain, dating back to the days of Maurice Broun. The hawk watch is located in a meadow just before the southern point of the Elk Neck Peninsula. The point, which faces south, is at the head waters of the Chesapeake Bay, and overlooks the North East and Elk Rivers. Our best annual count came last year with 7,017 raptors and a strictly volunteer effort.
