Not all species participate in morning flight and Common Yellowthroat is a good example of a species which is abundant in Cape May and elsewhere right now yet very very few fly out in the morning (and those that do stay very low where they can quickly duck into the bushes). Likewise, Catharus thrushes and cuckoos don't do much morning flight. B-t Green, Magnolia, and Blackburnian, on the other hand, are stong morning flyers and, as you point out, may well be more abundant inland. In general, the trans-Gulf migrants should be more abundant inland and the Caribbean migrants more abundant on the coast.
