Bald Eagle- 12 ( Charlie very enthused, describing 7 in one field of view ) These birds were flying south with a purpose. Merlin-1 Kestrel-1 Sharp-shin- 22 Broad-winged-3 9/22: A moderately good flight going on when I left at 11 AM, counters still there, more details later. It doesn`t take many Broad-winged to excite us, not typically getting many, so there was much fanfare to see a kettle of 12!! Other migrants this AM included: Black/white, Black-poll, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided Warblers, Red-breasted Nut-hatch. The Turkey Point Hawk Watch is located in Cecil County, MD and is part of the Elk Neck State Park. It was originated in 1994 by Gary Griffith, founding President of the Cecil Bird Club, and Charlie Gant, also a CBC member and long time member of Hawk Mountain, dating back to the days of Maurice Broun. The hawk watch is located in a meadow just before the southern point of the Elk Neck Peninsula. The point, which faces south, is at the head waters of the Chesapeake Bay, and overlooks the North East and Elk Rivers. Our best annual count came last year with 7,017 raptors and a strictly volunteer effort.
