The Baltimore Bird Club arranged two trips to Kevin's backyard last year-- but we picked very slow days. Yesterday (9/24) was the first scheduled trip for this year. Sunday at Kevin's fell into two distinct periods. 9-11 AM: 4 hawkwatchers, no hawks. 2-3 sharpies, nothing else. Air heavy, overcast, wind from the SE. At about 12:30 some clearing, light wind from the NW. Kevin's father called me at 1:40, because broadwings were moving. 12:30-4:00 PM: A nice flight. Kevin was counting from 12:30, I arrived at 2. Pete Webb appeared at 2:30 or 3. Kevin has already posted his totals. Here is the list of what I personally counted. sharpie--12 Cooper's--3 broadwing-- 186 osprey--2 rshoulder--2 bald eagle--1 (immature) kestrel--1 peregrine--1 unident. buteo-- 1 Some birds came in very low because of the weather. Incredible views of broadwings and Cooper's (and I missed a sharpie chasing a robin in Kevin's neighbor's yard). The numbers from Turkey Point are conveniently available for the same day (thanks, Leslie). Note that Kevin's yard has a much higher broadwing count, but fewer kestrels and sharpies.
