This weather is killing us!! However, dedicated souls Jeff Gordon and Brian Lego got some birds sneaking through on 9/25 between periods of rain, as follows: Between 9:20 and 11:50 AM they had, under completely overcast skies and intermittent rain: Kestrel-4 Osprey- 4 Sharp-shinned-8 Broad-winged- 42 Jeff relates that they had actually given up, were in the town of North East, observed a kettle of 12 BW over the town, did a U-turn and got back to Turkey Point for a kettle of 42 birds!! Now, is this dedication?? Tomorrow should be " the bomb " , can hardly wait!! The Turkey Point Hawk Watch is located in Cecil County, MD and is part of the Elk Neck State Park. It was originated in 1994 by Gary Griffith, founding President of the Cecil Bird Club, and Charlie Gant, also a CBC member and long time member of Hawk Mountain, dating back to the days of Maurice Broun. The hawk watch is located in a meadow just before the southern point of the Elk Neck Peninsula. The point, which faces south, is at the head waters of the Chesapeake Bay, and overlooks the North East and Elk Rivers. Our best annual count came last year with 7,017 raptors and a strictly volunteer effort.
