(LONGISH) In-Reply-To: Message of Tue, 26 Sep 2000 12:05:54 -0400 from I like F-T Flycatchers too, even though they can be elusive. I, too, miss ed this lastest one and also the one in Maryland 3 years ago (had a choice o f going to my husband's retirement party or chasing the bird...hmmmm....was it the right decision??) However, I did see the bird in Virginia in 1988, thank goodness for that! I drove down with Daphne Gemmill and a friend of hers, we arrived in afternoon, it had not been seen for a while, Bummer! We waited and no bird, There were Dickcissels and other goodies around, b ut we were focussed. Finally, some people started flying a radio-controlled model plane over the field (no, not birders, just model enthusiasts). Alm ost immediately after that, the bird appeared -- whether it had been relaxing in some shrub and was frightened by the plane or whether it was chance -- he y, who cared! We got good looks, and returned home quite late but happy!
