MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi All: Just wanted some input as to whether I was derlirious or dreaming this AM, after chasing this bird around the yard. My first thought was Scarlet Tanager, but some things didn`t add up. My description of bird as written down immediately after viewing: Bright yellow underparts- through throat, belly and undertail coverts. Flash of yellow first caught my attention. Very stout , short and light flesh colored bill. Excellent rear view- greenish olive head, mantle with CONTRASTING YELLOWISH- GREEN RUMP, rump color most definitely strongly contrasting with color of mantle. Brownish wings with a THIN YELLOW WINGBAR at shoulder, tertials strongly outlined in white. The bird looked very yellow about the face as well, thin yellow eyering. Viewed about 8 AM, flitting about treetops in yard and cooperatively perched for excellent views. No doubt there are many other distinctions I should have picked up on- but this bird was just not right for Scarlet Tangager- ie: contrasting rump color, tertials outlined with white, yellow wing bar. Never having seen a WETA, would be hard pressed to make a good comparison to bills, but this bill was very stout and thick. The bird flew away as I watched. Will check again later, but I imagine chances are slim and none.
