Eventually there was some clearing. Busy at TP with ~ 16 birders at hawk watch/point. A COMMON LOON was heard calling as the trip began. A newly arrived WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was tallied , ROSE BREASTED GROSBEAK heard " eeking "and first WINTER WREN for the county ( that I am aware of ). Also the previously tallied fall arrivals of both KINGLETS, SAPSUCKER. CASPIAN TERN were observed at the point, as were many FLICKERS. Other migrants included EASTERN PHOEBE, PEEWEE and WOODTHRUSH. A fairly dismal warbler list, with only BLACK-THROATED BLUE, BLACK/WHITE and TENNESSEE being IDed. CEDAR WAXWINGS were very active and good looks were enjoyed of a perched flock. And of course the BLUE JAYS were performing their annual ritual of massing over the point, heading over water and turning tail back to land, time after time. How amazing to hear the " whoooosh " of hundreds of simultaneously folded wings and birds diving for cover en masse!! A spectacle that never fails to entertain!!
