The birds tapered off quickly and activity was sporadic to nil. A lovely day for a walk though! Highlights were the fist WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS of the fall for most folks. A hard to see YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO gave us a tantalizing glimpse in the treetops. The first fall MYRTLE WARBLER for everyone gave us a look as we tallied up for the day. Sunday at Middle Patuxent we fared better. The fog and mist made things hard to see but kept the activity going all morning long. A SWAINSONS THRUSH was a lifer for a number of participants and gave us an unbelievably long and clear look. 3 SWAMP SPARROWS and a WHITE-THROAT were found. A couple lady BLACK-THROATED BLUES eating mile a minute berries. An OVENBIRD , BTGs , MAGNOLIAS, REDSTART , PARULA and COMMON YELLOWTHROATS rounded out the warblers. Today I went solo to Alpha Ridge Park. The place was hopping with activity. The best bird was a ***LINCOLNS SPARROW!!*** I was on my 5th effort of checking the weedy area behind the old building ruins and he spished up out of the tall grass into a black locust tree. He sat a posed and I actually had to lower my bins twice and rest my arms before he flew into a pokeweed/multiflora thicket to join a skulking SONG. He was THE MOST BEAUTIFUL Lincolns I have ever seen!( but I say that ever fall when I see my fist one!) The circle of trees in the center of the park held a WILSONS WARBLER, numerous BTGS , B and W, BTBs and RB KINGLETS, MYRTLES and a SAPSUCKER. EASTERN BLUEBIRDS everywhere and incredibly gorgeous in the fall sun. Bonnie Ott (Ellicott city) p.s. Weekday walk at Font Hill tomorrow. 8:30 at the sign off FH Drive. I expect and hope for swamp and lincolns. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
