Dawn flight was primarily Black-throated Greens, Blues, Magnolias and Myrtles with a smattering of other species. The highlight was a first-winter ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER in the grass-weedy patch at picnic area 17/18 (the "ridge"). Quite a bit of early diurnal passage as well, with Blue Jays, Robins, Grackles and Waxwings overhead. The calling of Golden- Crowned Kinglets was incessant. Autumn is definitely here! We tallied 10 species of warbler ourselves, and a Black-and-White seen by others brought it to 11 species, not bad for early October! Our counts of warblers and others follow: Black-throated Green (~25), Black-throated Blue (~10), Magnolia (12), Nashville (3), Yellow-rumped ("Myrtle") (5), Parula (2), Yellowthroat (5), Blackpoll (1), Orange-crowned (1), "yellow" Palm (1). Ruby-crowned Kinglet (8), Golden-crowned Kinglet (5 seen -- more heard), Red-eyed Vireo (1), Blue-headed Vireo (1), Scarlet Tanager (4), Swainson's Thrush (2), Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (3), Winter Wren (3), House Wren (10), Brown Thrasher (2), Eastern Wood-pewee (2), Phoebe (5), Lincoln's Sparrow (1 - in Maintenance Yard), White-throated Sparrow (15), Field Sparrow (2), Towhee (8), Waxwing (?? Heard only), Sharpshinned Hawk (1) It had started to get windy as we left so things quieted down quickly.
