Pleasant) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Mt. Pleasant lived up to its name for the field trip this morning. The first bird we spotted was a LINCOLN'S SPARROW with at least 4 others seen in various locations. There could have been double that number but we were afraid that we might be recounting some -so we estimated low. Everyone was able to view most if not all of the lincoln's very well, we had two perched together for quite some time and they lent themselves well to careful study. SONG numbers were down and SWAMP have not made the major push yet but we did manage to find enbough of each for good comparisions. More SAVANNAHS than last week and FIELD SPARROW numbers were up a tiny bit too. A single singing WHITE-THROAT was strangely elusive. We did manage to find some warblers- 3 NASHVILLE, a few BTG and plenty of PALMS around. The hawks kept us entertained when the wind came up and kept the sparrows down. A NORTHERN HARRIER hunting -yikes-sparrows!!- over the field was a treat. KESTRELS, RED-TAILS and SHARPIES were in good numbers. VERY exciting were three new birds to the Mt. P list. A SCREECH OWL (thanks to Nancy Magnussons pre-dawn arrival). A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER (thanks to Jeff Metters great spotting) and a WILD TURKEY gobbling (thanks to Lynn Holleys generous birdfeeding)!
