Birds were strangely hard to find until about 8:30 or so, when I came across some nice stuff in a weedy thicket. First bird to pop up was a beautiful Swamp Sparrow, and then right next to it, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW, which perched in a sunny spot allowing long leisurely looks. Behind it were two Song Sparrows, offering nice comparitive views between the three species. Other birds of interest were two male and a female Black-throated Blue Warblers, Palm Warblers, and a few Yellow-rumps feeding on poison ivy berries. Also Eastern Towhee, House and Carolina Wren, Brown Thrasher, Indigo Bunting, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, and American Kestrel. So, no Conn. Warbler but a consolation prize Lincoln's Sparrow! Still, a beautiful morning to be outside... Rick Sussman Ashton,MD warblerick@aol.com 301-221-6868 (Tues.
