Although it's a bit early to expect saw-whets in this area we try to start early to ensure that we cover the full migration season. No owls were netted or observed last night. I do hope that the current weather system speeds them on their way to us. A banding site near Hawk Mountain in Pennsylvania netted its first saw-whet of the season about October 4. It usually takes about 7-14 days for them to migrate this far in the beginning of the season.
