Peter Gaede (from CO) joined Jim and myself in the morning when we relocated the gull about 11.75 mi south of the pavement and only one-two mi north of the VA line. Later in the day we met up with Mark Hoffman and found the bird about 1 mi north of the VA line. Several rolls of photos and some video this time. Assateague was otherwise very birdy with migrants coming in off the ocean all morning and scattered tired migrants in the dunes. Bayside was as good as I've seen it in the afternoon with quite a lot of warbler species and highlights being a record-late Warbling Vireo, an imm. Dickcissel, and a lateish Blackburnian. Jim found a Clay-colored by the National Seashore Visito's Center. Hopefully the birding will be as good tomorrow morning when Hoffman, Gaede, and I will be scouring the island again. For anyone interested in the gull, I should mention that it IS possible to hitchhike to the southern portion of the ORV zone, but it is obviously a crapshoot. There are numerous surf fishermen going in and out of the area and many are friendly and won;t mind giving a ride. We used Jim's ORV zone pass today. See my earlier message for details of how to access the area at which the gull has been seen. Again, anyone interested in the latest news on the gull, specifics on how to look for it, or any other info on birding the coast, may call me at my Ocean City apartment at 410-289-2160. I should definitely be home in the evenings (after 7:00) and otherwise should be home most afternoons.
