The owl was a second year (hatched last year) female. After last years invasion we expect to see more adults than hatching year owls and this has been the case for sites to the North. Another interesting item is a current invasion of Boreal owls. There was an invasion of this species in 1996, the year following that last large saw-whet migration. Keep your eyes open, perhaps we can document one in Maryland this winter.
