It was in underbrush not too far from the small creek that runs through my housing development. Noted a distinct white eyering, a full hood that appeared to be a dull gray, an olive back and wings, a faint greenish highlight on the folded wing, and a completely yellow belly and undertail. May have seen this bird last week as well in the same general area, but never got a good enough look at it to make a solid ID. Early last week also started noticing white-throated sparrows, kinglets (mostly ruby-crowned) and later in the week juncos returning to my neighborhood in good numbers.
