In 1996, Barry and I, as well as Phil and Barbara Davis and at least one other MDospreyer flew up to Boston from BWI on USairways shuttle -- at dawn -- and by 9 am were enjoying crippling views of the Boreal! Since this owl is just across the street from the 1996 location, one would be tempted to say it is the same individual. Now -- perhaps one of these little beauties will deign to visit Maryland this year, since it looks like it might be an invasion year for Boreals! Cheers, Gail Mackiernan ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- A Boreal Owl was present at 17 Gloucester St, at the intersection of Gloucester and Commonwealth Ave. This bird was found by Ken Hudson this morning. Ken found a Boreal Owl in 1996 just across the street from this location. The 1996 bird stayed over a month. The bird today was in a magnolia tree in front of the house. BE RESPECTFUL of private property - this is a single family home with a yard. Stay out of the yard and off the lawn and plantings. This location is on the west side of Commonwealth (the side toward the river or outbound from the city). The bird was actually in the "side" yard of a VERY BIG PRIVATE MANSION. You can see the bird WITHOUT entering the yard. It (the yard has recently been seeded) - PLEASE STAY ON THE STREET! If you go into Boston Sunday, the Head of the Charles Regatta is in progress. The city will VERY crowded and one should expect serious delays. Be aware traffic and parking will be difficult - consider taking public transit. Thanks to Bob Stymiest and Ken Hudson for getting the word out about this rarity!
