It's a bit late for shorebirds. The stretch between Moriches Bay and Shinnecock Inlet along the shore road, reached by driving south from the Long Island Expressway on the William Floyd Parkway, is very good. You can look onto the bay (inland) side as well as along the beach. Later in the winter, Glaucous and Iceland Gulls are very likely, along with Snow Buntings. If you can get out to Montauk, Common Eiders are certainties later in the winter. This same area is excellent for shorebirds in spring and fall.
