After days...... weeks..... of faithfully checking the pound nets on the North East River at Turkey Point, we had Hallow`een BROWN PELICAN, but not at the pound nets!! At ll:20 AM they ( 4 ) appeared suddenly at the North edge of the hawk meadow just over the tree line, wings set with a downward droop and nary a flap, and disappeared in a matter of seconds towards the South West. Based on the whiteness of head and neck, and light bill colour, I determined them to be adult birds. I was dumbfounded and delighted. When they came into view, I did my usual WAIT A MINUTE, WAIT A MINUTE, WHAT`S THIS, WHAT`S THIS!!! Charlie GAnt was present to witness the event, as were a couple from Lancaster PA, who jokingly said they`d be willing to agree to whatever we said the birds were if there was money involved!! Kudos to Marshall for his earlier excellent documentation and predictions of their northward expansion.
