It was an exceptionally mild fall and early winter. We had lunch in our shirt sleeves it was so warm and pleasant. Oh, I thought, a Hermit. It flew to an adjacent dogwood tree, seven feet from window, where it had undoubtedly been feeding. I stood up and looked out and was astonished to see that it was a Wood Thrush. I know that this is the latest I have ever seen a woody, but note in the Yellow Book that they have been seen as late as the 21st.
