Checked the Potomac from Sycamore Landing and then went to the impoundments, where I made a loop through the fields to the east and came back through the mitigation area. Modest count with 33 species. Highlights were one Pied-billed Grebe, 5 Green-winged Teal (duck hunting started on Thursday), one Northern Harrier(increasingly hard to find here), 5 Winter Wrens around the impoundments near sunset, 6 Hermit Thrushes, a somewhat late Catbird, and 25 Rusty Blackbirds feeding among the swamp smartweed in the large impoundment. Also of interest were 2 Eastern Bluebirds singing. For those people considering starting a bluebird nest box trail this is the time of year to put out boxes since bluebirds do much of their nest site selection in the fall Paul Woodward Fairfax City, VA grackling@worldnet.att.net . ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
