We had no bins, and the only real light was from the Lincoln Memorial (which we were standing in front of). We watched the owl fly from the reflecting pond area, then directly overhead and barely clear the monument. Presumably, it landed on the roof, since we didn't see it on the other side. Anyway, we had no bins, but the wings were very broad; also the wings were very light underneath, but darker on top. There was no apparent head. The flight pattern was rather erratic and bat like, which is similar to other Short Eared Owls we've observed. Sorry for the late notice, but I after we dropped by friend off at the airport, we headed straight out to Assateague for the weekend.
