Earlier in the afternoon it was out in the middle of the lake just west of the boat ramp; when we saw it on our way home it was near the west end of the lake. It had a peachy-pink bill, the bright white area just behind the bill, a very narrow dark area just behind that, a white undertail, and the ends of the black bars on its belly were visible near the waterline. It perfectly matched the picture and description in the Kaufman Focus Guide we had with us, and my field notes conformed exactly to the pictures and descriptions in the National Geographic field guide and the Golden Books Eastern Birds field guide.
