The bird appeared to be a juvenile pale-bellied Brant. I was able to capture some brief video from which I extracted a poor, but pretty definitive shot of the bird. It can be seen here: . Besides quite a few Herring Gulls, there was one Great Black-backed and two Mute Swans. The swans took flight directly over the feeding Brant and caused it to fly away, much to my dismay. It took flight directly north, so it's possible this bird may be re-sighted in north of Calvert County or beyond. I wasn't able to get to North Beach this afternoon to check there. I also had two Winter Wrens along the lower North Ridge trail. Please note that Flag Ponds is only open to the public on weekends from 9-5 at this time of the year. ///////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com | || http://www.nestbox.com || ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
