When I did my breeding bird atlas work there, both pheasant and bobwhite quail were so common that they would feed in the evening on the lawn of the Trolley Museum! I last saw Bobwhite here (on the lawn) in about 1993, just before the series of bad ice-bound winters that we experienced in the mid-1990's. However, we heard cock pheasant crowing this early autumn at Layhill -- deep in the big weedy fields -- so they persist, although in much reduced numbers. The quail are long-gone.
