If I had to pick the most wintry-looking day so far this Fall, today would be it! I was especially surprised by the very low count of White-throated Sparrows, especially after the hoards of them we saw yesterday at Layhill Park. In any event, here are the 28 species I tallied: Turkey Vulture 1 Mallard 4 Red-shouldered Hawk 3 Red-tailed Hawk 1 Mourning Dove 12 Red-bellied Woodpecker 4 Downy Woodpecker 4 Hairy Woodpecker 1 Northern Flicker 3 Pileated Woodpecker 1 Blue Jay 7 American Crow 11 Carolina Chickadee 23 Tufted Titmouse 9 White-breasted Nuthatch 2 Carolina Wren 5 Eastern Bluebird 1 Hermit Thrush 1 Northern Mockingbird 8 European Starling 350 Eastern Towhee 1 Song Sparrow 7 White-throated Sparrow 1 Dark-eyed Junco 11 Northern Cardinal 14 House Finch 10 American Goldfinch 3 House Sparrow 8 Best, Norm ======================= Norm Saunders Colesville, Montgomery County, MD marshhawk@worldnet.att.net ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
