Hi all -- Not Maryland, of course, but Norm has always said .. "if it's a national-type rarity..." which this is. There is an immature Green-Breasted Mango, a large hummingbird more usually associated with Mexico and Costa Rica, at a feeder in Concord, North Carolina, just NE of Charlotte. The bird was seen regularly yesterday. This species has never been recorded outside of Texas before, and there are, I believe, only 8 previous reports of the species in the USA. It is illustrated in most recent Geo Guide. Details on the bird and access can be obtained from the Carolina RBA at 704- 332-2473. Updates are being posted on BirdChat. Hmmm-- which is the most important bird, a USA lifer or a Thanksgiving turkey? A hard choice!
