MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Gail, I don't have too much to offer, but here are a few thoughts. << Golden-Crowned Kinglet -- no problem, in our yard and all over the place! << (Eastern) Fox Sparrow -- seem to be plenty still around << Rusty Blackbird -- very thin on the ground, Danny B. says they are at Jug Bay << still and would appreciate other sightings. << American Tree Sparrow -- Haven't seen many reported yet -- could use some help! Garrett County is often one of the best places, especially places like Finzel Swamp and the Glades off Mosser Rd. and/or Accident-Bittinger Rd.. Even if they aren't yet in at Piedmont sites (I can't recall many reports either) they should be in there. If you go up for EVGR it will be convenient. >> Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow -- Has anyone checked the Indian River Inlet site (in Delaware) this year? (Behind the campground) I think Sam Dyke told me he had them there recently. Probably easier than E.A. Vaughn central, which is also VERY reliable. > Hooded Merganser males -- Have seen at Huntley but not in MD this autumn West OC Pond has had a number recently, Patuxent Wildlife Research Center always good, Flag Ponds etc... Shouldn't be a problem. > Harlequin Duck male -- Still the ones at O.C. inlet? On most recent checks I have seen one-three Harlequins at Ocean City, though one visit had only one female. I expect though that we have two-three wintering pairs in the area by now. > Evening Grosbeak -- This bird has become almost impossible to "pin down" - > however, we would travel some so if anyone in Western Maryland hears > of birds at feeders or which are reasonably staked out, would greatly > appreciate a call -- willing to drop everything and rush off! George and Barbara Gaffney live near New Germany S.P.. I don't have their contact info w/ me but I'm sure Bob Ringler has it. Their feeder is the most consistent (the only consistent?) spot for EVGR in the state, and I have not missed them there on any visit Dec-Mar. You might contact them and ask. They are always willing to have visitors. > Any crossbill -- red or white-winged. >> Good luck! Shoulda been here last year!
