Our full time coverage is done, and after the next week I will be posting the final seasons totals. News of continuing good flights from Waggoners and NJ provide good motivation to get a few more count days in!! On 11/20, a quiet flight for Leslie Fisher in 2 hrs of counting, made up for with an immature GOSHAWK. Also tallied were 10 Turkey Vulture, 1 Bald Eagle, 2 Sharp-shinned and 2 Red-tailed. 11/21- no counter present. 11/22: Amy Gordon, in 3hrs count, enthused over 4 BALD EAGLES, 2 adult, and 2 imm all in view at the same time and doing a wonderful display. Others were 1 Black Vulture, 17 TV, 1 SS, 3 Red-shouldered, and 12 Red-tailed. 11/23: Rick and Candi Lee celebrated Turkey Day at Turkey Point, now there is dedication. Between 9 and 11, West wind, they had: 4 TV, 1 Bald Eagle, and 11 Red-tailed. 11/24- no counter 11/25- no counter 11/26- ?? Last counts will most probably be 11/ 27 - 11/29. The Turkey Point Hawk Watch is located in Cecil County, MD and is part of the Elk Neck State Park. It was originated in 1994 by Gary Griffith, founding President of the Cecil Bird Club, and Charlie Gant, also a CBC member and long time member of Hawk Mountain, dating back to the days of Maurice Broun. The hawk watch is located in a meadow just before the southern point of the Elk Neck Peninsula. The point, which faces south, is at the head waters of the Chesapeake Bay, and overlooks the North East and Elk Rivers. Our best annual count came last year with 7,017 raptors and a strictly volunteer effort.
