Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2000 10:08:45 EST Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Rick Sussman Subject: Sightings for Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000 Comments: To: voice@capaccess.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Scouting for an upcoming field trip on Dec. 9, at Black Hill Regional Park: 1 Double-crested Cormorant 18 Tundra Swans 2 Gadwall + American Wigeon American Black Duck 3 Northern Pintail 3 Canvasback (1 male/2 female) 3 Redheads (1male/2 female) + Ring-necked Ducks + Buffleheads 12 Hooded Mergansers (6 male/6 female) + Ruddy Ducks Lots of ducks flying over and about the reservoir, some landing, many often changing positions. The pintails were seen from the visitor center, but could not be relocated from the bridge. The boat-ramp area (shallow wooded side) was frozen over, so most ducks were out towards the dam, but the Canvasbacks and Redheads were in the small cove to the right of the bridge as you faced the dam (where they seem to always be). Lots of Pied-billed Grebes and American Coots too.
