At about 4:05 PM, a yellow-breasted Tyrannus-type flycatcher flew into a small tree next to the Turkey Tyack (sp?) burial site on the Potomac River side of the field. I first saw the bird in binoculars. I quickly put the bird in my scope and Gwen and I could both see the white edging in the outer tail feathers. The underside was a bright yellow and the head was a soft gray. The short, all dark, conical bill were very nice in the evening sun. (My camera was in the car.) The bird never made a sound that we heard and did not stay long. Within five minutes it had flown to the tops of several trees, not staying long in any, then headed south toward the Colonial Farm Park. The park is at the end of Bryan's Point Road. It is likely that this bird may be at the Colonial Farm Park at dawn. Gwen I looked after it flew away from us but were unsuccessful in relocating it. Other birds seen on the short outing were: 1 Common Loon 1 Horned Grebe 6 Pied-billed Grebe 7 Great blue Heron 1 Double-crested Cormorant 400+ Canada Geese 20 Gadwall 8 American Black Duck 140 Mallards 220 N. Shovlers 500 Canvasbacks 6 Redhead Ducks 60 Ringneck Duck 4 Greater Scaup 50 + Lesser Scaup 200+ Bufflehead 1 female Common Goldeneye 10 Hooded Mergansers 200+ Ruddy Ducks 200+Ring-billed Gull 6 Herring Gulls 250+ Coot 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk 3 Bald Eagles 1 WESTERN FLYCATCHER The Western Flycatcher was about a mile from Charles County and is probably sleeping there as I type this. Bummer! Good luck on any that may chase this never-to-site-too-long-in-one-place migrant.
