Second, I took a stroll Thanksgiving morning along the paved hiker/biker path on the Germantown side of Black Hill Regional Park. This path follows the edge of the lake and you can get very close views of the waterfowl. I saw the following: Red-headed Woodpeckers - 3 (in the section with dead trees) Pied-billed Grebe - 4 Canada Geese - common Black Duck - 5 Mallard - common Gadwall-6 Ring-necked Duck - 1 Bufflehead - common Hooded Merganser - estimated 25 (mostly around trees with Red-headed Woodpeckers) I then went to the gravel parking area next to the bridge and added Common Goldeneye - 3, American Wigeon - 4, Canvasback - 2, and Coots. Sunday afternoon at the bridge included Redhead Ducks - 3 (beautiful in flight against background of trees), Field Sparrow - 2, White-crowned Sparrow (immatures) - 2 (Rufus head stripes and pink bills) & White-throated Sparrow - 3. A visit to Horsehead Wetlands Center over the weekend included Common Snipe, Horned Grebe, Canvasbacks, Redheads, Ruddy Ducks, Greater Scaup, Buffleheads, Common Loon, Green-winged Teal, Oldsquaw, Swamp & Fox Sparrows, Bald Eagle, Harrier, Cooper's Hawk, Hairy Woodpecker and a beautiful sunset.
