Had some problems gettting it set up right on my computer, but the Thayer people were very responsive to e-mail requests for help, and it's working fine now. If you have access to a laptop computer, it is very handy to have it installed there so you can take it along in the field. That way you can play the bird songs to compare with any bird you hear that you are unsure of. We have used it to call in birds occasionally. If your computer will accommodate it, it is very convenient to have all the files copied onto the hard disk, rather than requiring the CD-ROM to be in place all the time. It also provides much faster access that way. The Thayer people gave me instructions for doing that, which I can send if you decide to go that way. If you are interested in audio CD's, I have found that the Stokes CD's (Eastern and Western) are useful. They provide songs for a lot of birds, without the extensive commentary that the Peterson CD's have. (I quickly found that irritating.) I often play these while driving to and from work. Whatever you choose, enjoy!
