MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi All: The Cecil Bird Club enjoyed a very successful trip to Conowingo Dam on 12\02, led by Charlie Gant and Sean McCandless. 19 birders were present, 3 of them our most recent new members, and picked up a new member today!! Birds of the day were GOLDEN EAGLE, 1 sub- adult and 2 juvenile. Charlie, making the first call, was beside himself; actually everyone in the crowd was thrilled. The 2nd juv. GOEA was spotted after Charlie had left, and we were headed onto the trail; Sean picked it up flying from the Cecil side of the river. Others were happy to get an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, perched on the concrete wall at the base of the dam. BONAPARTES GULL flew by at good intervals, providing all with good looks. By Charlies` reckoning, we counted 26 BALD EAGLES, in all plumages. A good flight of RED-TAILED HAWKS was going on as well, and one RED-SHOULDERED during the morning. On the trail, we had numerous WINTER WREN. After the trip, I headed to Perryville for a quick look and got female RED-BREASTED MERG and HORNED GREBE, a single of each. Also present were WIGEON, RING-NECKED DUCK, SHOVELOR, PIED-BILLED GREBE, HOODED MERG ( an invasion, ~ 40 ), GADWALL, GOLDENEYE ( one female ) and BUFFLEHEAD. On the way out, I found Parke John just starting the loop. He had found a very late OSPREY in the first cove, perched feeding on a log. By the remnant speckling on its` back, it had to have been a juvenile bird. All in all, a very enjoyable day.
