It was in front of a group of gulls about 30 feet away. I looked at the gull for about 30 secbefore turning away to get my scope. At that time something spooked the flock. I spent another hour trying to relocate the bird without success. When the bird was spotted it was an unmistakable standout, with the bright red bill and legs, the slim appearance and the white head with the white eye. Bob Fletcher was very good about giving permission. Some suggestions for those planning to go there. Park on the upwind side, don't wash your car before going and don't look up when the flock takes off. It is dusty there and the birds have a nasty habit of deficating when in flight.
