Tidal Basin: 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER in a holly tree right by the sluice gate to the basin, together with 1-2 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETs. Anacostia River in Anacostia Park, just downstream of the Rec. Center: 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (winter plumaged adult). Probably one of the same birds seen by Paul Pisano on Saturday (and definitely the same bird seen by me on Friday 12/1) Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens: 1 FOX SPARROW in with lots of WHITE-THROATED, SONG and SWAMP, along the new boardwalk trail. KAG also has perhaps as many as 3 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS in the trees near the entrance gate. Kenilworth Park: 12 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS sitting on and around the football goalposts. Hains Point: A MERLIN perched in a big tree to the west of the rest rooms near the play area (in between the golf course and the "Awakening" statue). He/she spent a lot of time and energy chasing crows. I failed to see the Black Scoters earlier reported by Rob Hilton (but thanks for the alert anyway, Rob!) D.H.
