On Saturday morning I went to Adkins Arbouretum, part of Tuckahoe State Park. Along the trail on the right of the visitors center is where i did the birding. In the open area with the woods on the right and field on the left (where most everything was) there were some very nice views of Eastern Bluebirds. The woods was very silent. This is what I saw there: Eastern Bluebird Chipping Sparrows Field Sparrows White throated Sparrows Dark eyed Junco Am. Goldfinch Red-Bellied Woodpecker Northern Flicker Eastern Phobe House Finch Turkey Vulture Song Sparrow Also on Sunday I went Birding with Zach Baer to Horsehead Wetland Center. There we saw: Lincoln Sparrow- near east blind Savanhah Sparrow Am. Tree Sparrow Lesser Scaup Mallard Turkey Vulture Tundra Swan Buffle Head Wood Duck Blue Heron some kind of hawk in woods- nighthawk? Yellow rumped warbler- too darn many Dark eyed Junco Turkey Vulture Least Bittern? Ring Billed Gull Red bellied Woodpecker American Widgeon?- This was seen from the visitors center, very close. The duck was diffenetly a Widgeon, and had the Black the white rump, with distinctive red-buff on the side. The was redish, with a buff crown. A photo from Thayers looked as if it was an american, but the crown was different and the head slightly. Could this be a cross bread or is it, more likley, a American that is in the middle of mollting to different pluumage? Any help would be appreciated.
