It is relatively cheap at approx. $470 and is very easy to use and comes with everything you need to get set up (SCSI card, cables, software). At its maximum resolution (2720dpi) the scans are good enough to get a 12"x18" print at almost twice the resolution used for glossy magazines, such as Birding or Audubon, and look better than anything I have ever had from a photolab (if you use a good printer and high quality paper). It is probably a bit of overkill though if all you want are scans that you can send by e-mail. Another very good dedicated slide scanner is the Minolta Dimage Dual II, which is slightly cheaper and, from the reviews I have read is better than the Canon. If you are wanting to scan your slides purely for sending as e-mail attachments, then a much cheaper option would be to buy a flatbed printer with a slide holder attachment. Any scanner with an optical resolution of 600dpi or higher will be capable of producing a full screen image from a slide. You can pick one of these up for around $150.
