Subject: redbellied behavior MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1" MDOsprey, A few days ago I watched some interesting behavior from a RB Woodpecker. He is always in the trees near our small townhouse yard, but seldom ever comes to the feeders. In fact, this was the first visit I've witnessed in over two years. He made many visits to grab a sunflower seed and then would retreat to a tree to enjoy in peace from the waves of House Sparrows present at the feeder. Occasionally, he would take a seed, fly to a very near Sumac, and stuff it into a crevasse. He, then would fly back and forth and stuff more seeds into the same little hole. He seemed to make a real effort to pack them in too. Then he would go back to eating each one as he retrieved it. After a dozen more trips to the feeder he decided it was time to fill another cache. I watched him fill 3 altogether. Is this a common behavior among Redbellies?
