I just got in from photographing a first winter plumage Glaucous Gull on Schoolhouse Pond, Upper Marlboro, Prince George's County, MD. The gulls at the pond are transients. In the late afternoon they head to roost by or on Chesapeake Bay. In the morning they head up to the Brown Station Landfill. In mid-day many will bathe or rest at Schoolhouse Pond. Other than the Glaucous, there were the usual gulls for this date: Great Black-backed, Herring, Ring-billed and Laughing. Good Birding!
