Quick trip by there this afternoon in bad light--no time to count numbers. Tundra Swans--many Buffleheads " Northern Shovelers many American Wigeon - at least 1-no time to look for Eurasian! Red-Bst Mergansers --28 Hooded Merganser - 1 at least Ring-necked Ducks--many Lesser Scaup- maybe Greater also --many Ruddy Ducks --few Black Ducks - many Mallards - tons Northern Pintails - 4 Am Coots - many Hundreds of Canada Geese am sure I missed some others Directions to this site (which is part of Piscataway Park) and directions to other good Southern Maryland birding sites may be found on the Southern Maryland Audubon Society's web site http://www.geocities.com/smdaudubon/ Also, this afternoon in front of our home on the Potomac, Indian Head, many THOUSANDS of what assume to be the Scaup (mostly Lesser) which winter up and down this area of the Potomac! Most seen here yet this winter. Were too far out today for definite ID.
