He marks them on the back of the head. Per his email he has marked six this year. Please be sure to check these owls closely for any odd coloration. This can be reported to the Bird Banding Lab of the North American Banding Program. You may also report it to me and I'll pass the information on to the bander. If you need more information on reporting marked birds to the Banding Lab, please contact me personally at Gabboon@aol.com . I found it somewhat humorous when I was viewing the snowy owl on Sunday that it was perched near a large "candy cane" of lights, among other bright holiday yard decorations. Particularly as this small oasis of brilliance was surrounded by acres of habitat seemingly more suitable. I wonder if those people ever realized that they had about the best symbol of winter they could have hoped for gracing their otherwise unnatural yard. Another thing to look for is color marked red-tailed hawks. These were marked in eastern Pennsylvania. I believe they were marked on the primary feathers (large outer wing feathers). J.
