It has eaten well and stayed in the same area for some time. It knows how to hunt (as many of us have observed) and has found a good food source. If it were starving it would be much easier to trap and band. I believe those with slim chances of survival keep heading south and end up in places like Florida. I would expect this owl to survive and hopefully show up some place where snowies are regularly studied during the winter. Of course cars, fences and power lines are a concern. If I manage to trap this owl I will examine it for body condition and any injuries. I stayed until 6:30 last night. The owl flew off on an excursion over the fields at that point and I brought my gerbils in to get warm. Next attempt I'll try to get there before it has a large evening meal.
