In a deep puddle formed by a tire track in the soft shoulder of a roadway, we found a Sharp-shinned Hawk drowning a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. We could see the sapsucker struggling while the sharpie held it under the water. When the struggles ceased the sharpie dragged the sapsucker out of the puddle, this is when we were able to ID it, waited for about 30-40 seconds, maybe to see if the sapsucker was finally dead, and then flew off with its lunch. On Sunday we went to Frederick County looking for the Snowy Owl. I thought it was interesting and unusual (at least for me) to see a Snowy Owl walking around in a pond. ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
