MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Gail and others - The St.Michaels CBC was held on the 17th, in the midst of wildly fluctuating weather conditions - light showers, then heavy downpour, severe winds, then two hours of open skies and stillness - temps at 61 early and 40 near evening. This meant fewer birders participating, and fewer birds visible. The total numbers for the count were 91 species and 58099 individuals, as compared to 1999 findings of 102 species and over 75000 individuals. Highlights: Golden Eagle (1) - first on this count in recent years Peregrine Falcon (1) - first on this count in many years Lowlights: Only 31 Black Ducks reported Only 3 Killdeer, and these were the only shorebirds reported - tides were high so there was very little chance to view mudflats or sandy shores Only 1 Northern Bobwhite No Red-breasted Nuthatches and only two White-breasted Otherwise the numbers were about what one would expect for such weather conditions.
